Coalition Influence Map
The public influence map turns discipline-specific coalition output into a strategy-game-style hex territory view. It is separate from the overall coalition leaderboard: a coalition can be strong in one scientific field without being first overall.

Seven discipline territories
The map tracks Radio Astronomy, Optical Survey, Solar Astronomy, Lunar Science, Moving Objects, Exoplanet Research, and General Science. Each discipline contains 37 hex tiles.
What creates influence?

How territory is allocated
Hexes are allocated proportionally from each coalition’s share of that discipline’s accepted Dataset Credit. Territory growth is arranged into coherent local holdings rather than simply scattering every tile randomly.
Keeping smaller coalitions visible
The top 12 coalitions in a discipline are represented automatically. Additional coalitions with at least 2% of that discipline’s influence may also receive named holdings, up to 16 named holders. Represented coalitions receive at least one visibility tile when allocation allows.
The remaining long tail is grouped into the muted Minor Coalition Network territory so a server with hundreds of coalitions remains readable without pretending that smaller contributions do not exist.
Contested frontiers
Contested styling appears on meaningful borders rather than marking the entire discipline. Both neighboring coalitions must hold at least 5% of that discipline. A difference of 10 percentage points or less is Contested; 5 points or less is Highly Contested.
