Observatory Management
A player account may operate several scientific institutions, but each observatory remains a separate persistent multiplayer identity with its own name, ledger state, datasets, save history, and memberships.
Three active observatories per player
A player may have at most three active observatories at once. The limit is enforced by the server rather than only by the interface. Older or retired observatories do not consume an active slot.
Naming and identity
New observatories are named when they are established. Names are public-facing labels used by the shared ledger, Player Marketplace, Research Coalitions, Cooperative Missions, and provenance displays. Renaming changes the display name but does not change the permanent OBS-… ledger identity.
Continue the latest save
Operator Home is organized by observatory. Selecting an observatory automatically resolves its most recently updated linked save. Older save points remain available under that observatory’s Save History, while old unlinked saves are preserved separately as legacy saves.
Retiring an observatory
An observatory can be retired after its linked save points have been removed. Retirement frees one of the three active slots while preserving historical scientific and economic records.
Marketplace listings/offers are closed, active coalition membership ends, and the observatory stops appearing as an active multiplayer participant.
Dataset provenance, completed trades, licenses, coalition contributions, co-op history, ledger transactions, and audit records remain permanent.
Founder retirement
If the retired observatory founded a coalition, leadership passes to an existing active coalition-member observatory. Role priority is evaluated first, followed by accepted coalition contribution credit, membership seniority, and finally a stable member-ID tie-breaker. If no active successor exists, the coalition is archived.
