Cooperative Missions

Cooperative missions are temporary server-wide objectives completed by a limited network of observatories contributing qualifying datasets and/or Research Points. The dedicated mission workspace shows the entire participant roster and each observatory’s contribution.

Minimum and maximum participants

Each cooperative mission can define both a minimum number of committed observatories and a maximum number of available participant slots. The minimum is required for mission completion; the maximum creates competition for attractive missions.

Reserved

Clicking Join Mission claims a participant slot. A reservation does not satisfy the minimum-participant requirement until the observatory makes its first accepted contribution.

Committed

The first accepted qualifying dataset or RP contribution permanently commits the observatory to that mission and counts it toward the minimum.

Reservations normally expire after the mission’s configured reservation window (commonly 24 server hours). A reserved observatory may release its slot before contributing. Once committed, participation cannot be withdrawn from that mission.

Mission workspace

The Cooperative Missions workspace shows all participating observatories, their dataset count, Dataset Credit, RP contribution, total contribution credit, and projected reward share. Your selected observatory is highlighted.

Mission requirements

A cooperative mission may specify a dataset-credit target, RP target, minimum/maximum participating observatories, science categories, minimum quality, minimum processing stage, and per-observatory contribution limits.

Contribution types

Dataset contribution

The server validates ownership, science type, quality, processing stage, and mission eligibility. Eligible datasets show projected contribution credit; ineligible datasets can show the exact reason they do not qualify.

RP commitment

Research Points are deducted from the authoritative observatory ledger and permanently committed to the shared mission.

Reward distribution

Administrators can configure proportional, equal, or hybrid reward rules. A minimum contribution threshold can prevent trivial “tag-along” participation from earning a share.

Proportional

Contribution credit determines the full reward share.

Equal

Every qualifying participant receives an equal portion.

Hybrid

One part is equal and the remainder scales with contribution.

Rewards may include cash, RP, and reputation and are posted through permanent ledger transactions.
