Observatory operations
Health & Maintenance
Facilities wear down over time. Weather can accelerate damage, and buildings that cross their disrepair threshold stop providing normal output until maintenance restores them.
Health loss
Each health-enabled facility has a base daily decay rate and a weather-damage factor. Severe weather increases stress. Technology, maintenance coverage, and staff can reduce the effective burden.
Disrepair and outages
Below the disrepair threshold, a building no longer behaves as a healthy operational facility. This can cascade: a damaged generator removes power, a damaged data facility reduces usable science, and a damaged telescope can undermine mission eligibility.
Maintenance capacity
The Maintenance Workshop and Maintenance Technicians are the primary defenses. A robust observatory has enough capacity to prevent the repair backlog from growing faster than it can be cleared.
