Game Overview

Observatory Command is an observatory-management game about turning a remote site into a productive scientific institution. You are simultaneously a facilities manager, research director, grant strategist, night-operations coordinator, and—once multiplayer systems come online—a participant in a shared scientific data economy.

Primary goal

Build a sustainable observatory that produces valuable science.

There is no single short “win” button. Progress comes from surviving financially, expanding your site, unlocking advanced technologies, completing difficult grants and contracts, creating discoveries and datasets, earning reputation, and eventually competing or collaborating with other observatories.

What you manage
  • Cash, annual funding, payroll, upkeep, and loans
  • Buildings, construction, health, maintenance, and power
  • Staff coverage and specialist abilities
  • Research Output, Research Points, tech, and directives
  • Weather, night conditions, lunar skyglow, and emergencies
  • Datasets, rights, marketplaces, co-op missions, coalitions, influence, and governance

The core loop

1
Build capacity

Place facilities, power generation, roads, support buildings, and science infrastructure.

2
Staff and operate

Hire the right people, connect the power grid, maintain facilities, and keep the site functional.

3
Generate science

Telescope facilities and scientific infrastructure create Research Output as conditions and staffing allow.

4
Focus the program

Spend Research Points on technology and activate Research Directives to specialize the observatory.

5
Complete work

Take grants/contracts, perform optional observation activities, review scientific datasets, and produce discoveries.

6
Use the data

Publish, license, sell, contribute, or trade datasets through the server-backed multiplayer economy.

What makes a strong observatory?

Operational resilience

Enough connected generation, maintenance capacity, staff coverage, and cash reserves to survive storms and emergencies.

Scientific identity

A coherent technology/directive strategy that converts your buildings into high Research Output and useful discoveries.

Institutional reach

Reputation, completed missions, valuable datasets, coalition participation, and a strong position in the shared research economy.
